Xbox 360 Vista Stream Average ratng: 9,5/10 4445 reviews

not sure if this is more appropriate for the hardware or application compatibility forums, but here goes. I have been using Vista and WMP11 to stream music and.avi files to the XBOX Dashboard for some time. I installed Windows 7 (new partition, dual boot with Vista) and have not been able to get.avi video file streaming to work with WMP12. Music files stream fine.

Videos sometimes work through the Media Center (nice that it now supports DIVX and XVID), but not reliably so this isn't a good alternative to the Dashboard. It doesn't matter whether I put the.avi files in my Windows Videos folder or add another folder with these files to the Videos Library.

My media PC is running Vista RC1 (build 5600) and is connected to my router over ethernet. It is an older maching (1.3 GHz Athlon, 512 MB RAM), but has no. Learn how to stream music, pictures, and video to your Xbox 360 console using Windows Media Center.

I can see the folder on the XBOX Dashboard, but no files appear. Everything appears to be shared properly. The XBOX appears to be set up properly in Media Sharing. That said, something about this seems strange. In Vista, the XBOX device icon appears with a green check, which I assume means it was properly set up for sharing. In Windows 7, the XBOX icon appears with a green arrow when I first define it and turn sharing on, but the first time I actually power on the XBOX and the network connection is established, the green arrow disappears and never comes back. I've tried removing and redefining the XBOX and the behavior is the same. Not sure if this has anything to do with the inability to stream these.avi files or not.

Music files still stream OK. A number of people have posted about similar experiences on the Microsoft Connect Feedback site. Some posters reported that renaming.avi to.mp4 or.wmv helps (mp4 doesn't work for me; haven't tried wmv yet). Does anyone here have any idea how to fix this? Thanks in advance for your help. PS - I tried searching the Windows 7 Beta forum for XBOX threads before posting this, but it seems search doesn't work so well (returns a list of over 70 million hits from every website imaginable). I'm having a few problems with video streaming too.

I could'nt find the reason, but sometimes it takes a while for the library update. I add a video in it and takes a whole eternety so my 360 can see it. There was a time that not even reseting the pc did the trick, and then eventually it showed on my console. Some files that used to appear and work are not appearing anymore aswell, i think they are all avis too (thought there are some avi's that i can see without a problem). Some mp4's that played fine on vista now make my 360 lock up. It just gets stucked and the only way is reseting the console. Some trailers i have work flawlessly.

And at last but a little off topic, my Media Center can't find any videos from my library. Over the weekend I reinstalled Windows 7 and this time I installed the 64-bit version. I was initially happy to see that my video files now appear in the XBOX Dashboard and many of them even play (but not all of the ones that play with Vista and WMP11).

I thought I was making progress. I started adding my various media folders to WMP libraries and this ultimately became very frustrating. Sometimes folders I added were recognized by WMP12 right away, but for others I would wait overnight for the library to rebuild and see the files, but nothing.

Then I noticed the Advanced Tag Editor is gone from WMP12. I like this facility and while it's not a deal-breaker I decided I was wasting too much time on something that works seamlessly with Vista and WMP11 and obviously has a ways to go with W7 and WMP12.

I still have W7 installed and may work with it some more, but I was really hoping to use it full time - probably unrealistic for a beta, but overall the W7 quality seems high. Perhaps WMP just hasn't gotten enough attention from MS yet and a later build will be better. After upgrading my computer to Windows 7 RC Build 7100 it will no longer stream.avi files and when I try to even connect on the Xbox I get message that says 'Can't connect. Make sure you have activated this console on your computer'. I know it is connected however because my Xbox is connected to the computer through WMP and Zune software. When I connect to the Zune folders it brings up the video folders linked to my Zune software but still will not even recognize.avi but however is does.mp4 so that might be your best bet.

It is the only thing that seems to work at the moment. I recently upgraded from XP SP3 to W7 RC 7100. I am having the same problem, I can use Windows Media Center to watch the files on my computer, but that program is a piece of garbage. I used to be able to stream from the dashboard just fine but now the 360 will not recognize my computer. I find it hilarious that something as simple as this is broken already.

Just wondering if anyone knows how to stream to the dashboard like we could in XP. Make sure under 'Network and Sharing' you click 'Choose homegroup and sharing options' then 'Change advanced sharing settings.' Under your network type click 'Choose media streaming options' and allow the 360. I recently upgraded from XP SP3 to W7 RC 7100. So this worked for me, thanks for the info. So to all those who can view their files in WMC on the 360 but not on the 360 dashboard this is solution is for you.
